About Jim Houx

You might as well call me a jack-of-all trades.  It wasn't until 2003 when I gave my life to Jesus that I found direction in my life.  With God by my side, I pursued my dream of being a computer animator and web designer.  In 2008, I felt that He was calling me to a higher purpose.  I began sharing my faith with people on the street and actively studying world history and religious history.  In late 2009, a series of events lead me to conclude that I must seek a new path of service to the Lord.  I began studying green energy and alternative living practices -- with an emphasis on powered machinery.  In 2010, I met a series of people who introduced me to a great deal of information.  I am still in the midst of study in this area, but I am working with Patrick Clarida in the creation of a forum for Energy Security and Sustainable Living.

Most Notable Professional Positions

2 Years as 3D Visualization Artist and Programmer at HNTB Engineering Company
I was responsible for developing the look of animations for eye appeal.  A lot of his involved camera animation and color/effects work to communicate an idea or the mechanical workings of a subject clearly.  I also spent about 6 months developing a real-time visualization project whereby Road Models could be exported from CAD and interacted with in a fast 3d environment.  This gave engineers the ability to "fly" along a right-of-way path and easily view potential obstacles that would need to be negotiated including terrain shape, utility lines, and existing roadways.  This became a unique proprietary technology.

8 Months as Web Designer and Graphic Designer at Breiter Marketing of Mankato, MN
This position was quite beneficial to me as it gave me a lot of insight into marketing techniques as well as a proper mental framework for understanding the differences between advertising and marketing.  I also learned the ropes of designing effective materials that communicate a powerful message.
